The Humane Society of Alamance County does not operate a shelter or facility. Our foster animals are cared for in private foster homes by our amazing foster families!

You may scroll to the bottom of the page to complete our Adoption Interest Form.  References will be contacted, and a home visit completed (in person, via photos submitted or zoom call) before a "Meet 'n' Greet" will be scheduled between the applicant and the animal of interest. We ask that you allow our adoption coordinators 7 - 10 business days to process your adoption application and reach out to you.

PLEASE NOTE!
Serious inquiries only! (Please read each pet's description and make sure their needs match your family's expectations in a new pet before submitting a form on their behalf.) We work hard to rescue and take care of our foster pets and community animals in need, on a daily basis. If you submit an application to adopt one of our dogs or cats but adopt an animal from another source while we are processing your application, PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE AND INFORM US OF THAT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that we may move on to the next applicant and find our pets their true forever homes.

HSAC Adoption Policies:
  • HSAC adopts dogs and cats to indoor only homes- no exceptions!
  • HSAC requires landlord approval for all applicants leasing or renting their home.
  • HSAC will automatically deny any applicant who intends to declaw, ear tip or tail dock their pet.
  • HSAC requires all adopters to sign a contract agreeing they will not declaw their cat or physically alter their pets in any way.
  • HSAC requires adopters to be 18 years or older.
  • HSAC requires all pets already in the home to be spayed or neutered if old enough and barring any medical condition.
  • HSAC requires all pets in the home to have been kept up to date on all vaccines, wellness exams and monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
  • HSAC reserves the right to perform a home visit for all applicants prior to adoption approval.
  • HSAC reserves the right to perform a follow up home visit for all adopters post adoption.

*For the safety of our foster animals, the Adoption Interest Form must be submitted and references checked before a Meet 'n' Greet will be approved and scheduled. Please make sure your personal and veterinary references are aware they have been listed on your applications and are ready and available to be contacted by our rescue.
