| Being Kind to Animals is Very Important Being kind to animals is very important. My sister and I volunteer in the Luv-A-Pet feline adoption center at Petsmart. Sometimes pets are hard to take care of. They are hard work and sometimes you want to quit, but don't, because if you do who will take care of them? Rain or shine it is kind to take your animal on a walk. If you are allergic to animals and want to help just donate and/or set up a fundraiser for animals, and just because you are allergic to animals does not mean they are bad. Jacob Bost Age: 10 |

| It's Good to be Home When I was just three months old I was abandoned, no shelter, no food. Someone found me and brought me to a place with these older cats. I was close to the only young one there. They screamed for help, screams of fear. I was in a cage surrounded by the terrified screamers. A volunteer put food and water out for me, in clean, little, shiny bowls. A little while later two different people came. They looked at me smiling. I'm not the shy one, so I decided to walk around showing my natural beauty. They said something to the woman that put the food and water in my cage. She came up to me and smiled. She said "You're a cute one, you're going to be gone soon." Not long after that a man stood in front of my cage. He asked the lady if he could hold the screamer above me. She got him out and passed him to the man. He held and petted him. The man looked down and saw me. I walked around, once again showing my beauty. He said something to the lady. She took the cat and put him back in his cage. She asked the man to sanitize his hands before handling another animal. He sanitized his hands, she did too, and then she fished me out and handed me over to him. "He hasn't been here long, two other families have already looked at him" she said to him in that you're-probably-not-going-to-get-him voice. He looked me in the eyes; his eyes screamed YOU"RE THE ONE. Not long after that I'm put into a smaller cage; I sat on the seat beside him in his car. "Stay tight little buddy" the man told me and got out of the car. A few minutes later, another car pulled up. Then a girl came out to the car. She opened the door and just stood there. My cage began to move, a face was at the door in seconds. "Hey, Cutey" she said to me. We began up the stairs and into a house. There were smells of other cats. She sat my carrier on the floor and opened the door. I stretched and walked out; in my vision there were three people, two other cats, and my favorite one fuzzy orange ball. I raced to it and immediately played with it. I heard some suggestions of names for me. "I don't like Clover, it's a girlie name, and he's a boy" the girl said. I knock my ball away and just took off running: I ran around the kitchen, the table, the back of the couch and down the man's stomach. The girl laughed. "What about Taz?" "I like it" the girl agreed. She picked me up and showed me where my food and water bowl were and the litter box. The man said "cats are a big responsibility." "Dad, I know. I will do the litter box twice a day and dump it every week. I'll refresh the water every day and then add food" she said to the man called Dad. I played all night. When two of the people woke I was still playing. ----------------------------------------------- Around nine months later a clone named Grady came to live with us. He came from the Humane Society of Alamance County. He looked exactly like me, but skinny. He was very playful and fun to be around. He was nice to all the others. We became best buds; we became brothers. We shared everything. My mom kept our areas clean and refreshed; she played with us and combed us. Occasionally we get baths. We have been taken care of and loved. Where are is our Haven. Be Kind to Animals: Animals are born nice, but how they are taken care of can change that. Many animals are fortunate to have good homes, but others aren't. There are cruel people out there. Do not be one of them. You have a choice. Choose wisely. Tiffinae Jordan Age: 14 |
